Writing and Reading the Essay

An MIT writing workshop on the essay as a literary form: read Didion, Hoagland, and the essayists who made the form supple, then work through a graded sequence of assignments — praise, blame, satire, and a final essay of your own. The assignments and sample essays are all published; the discipline of actually writing them is yours to supply.
